Knitting & Giving

Charitable knitting is an important part of our guild mission and members are encouraged to knit items for charity throughout the year. We currently support the philanthropic projects below.

Have you donated an item for charity in 2008?
We're starting to keep count of all charity items donated by our members so we'll know at the end of each year how many items we've contributed to the charities we support. At each guild meeting, Patti will pass around a sheet where you can list the items you have donated in that month, or since the last time you attended a meeting.

50 Hats for Dream Street
Donations are due by the May 17 meeting

Dream Street is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing a unique camping program, free of charge, to children with chronic or life-threatening diseases.

Our goal is to collect 50 hats/scarves by our May meeting to donate to their cause. The children who attend Dream Street camps range in age from four to fourteen years, so a wide rangs of sizes are welcome. Hats should be soft and warm.

Afghans for Afghans - Stoles for Mothers
Donations are due in summer, probably July

Afghans for AfghansAfghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that sends hand-knit and crocheted blankets and sweaters, vests, hats, mittens, and socks to the beleaguered people of Afghanistan.

The Cure hospital in Kabul, which has been the recipient of our baby items, hats and blankets, is now asking for stoles for the mothers of the babies. They must be rectangles, made of animal fiber yarns, and fall within a specific size range. Due date is probably going to be sometime in July, details will come later. To review the specific guidelines and obtain free patterns, go to their website. It was suggested at the guild meeting on Saturday that you send your stoles directly to Afghans for Afghans at their San Francisco address, also on the website.

Thank you everyone for your generous donations.

GoodSearch for Charity

The next time you need to do a search on the Internet, please consider using Goodsearch.com. Simply enter the name of the charity you'd like to raise funds for (like Stitches from the Heart) then enter the word or phrase you're looking for and click the Search button as usual. Charities earn about a penny per search.

2007 Charity Blanket Campaign

Tremendous thanks to all guild members who participated in our 2007 Charity Blanket Campaign. We knitted, crocheted, and stitched together 23 lap blankets

These beautifully made blankets brought cheer and warmth to the residents of Royalwood, and they were extremely grateful for our generous donation.

Scarves for Soldiers

AnySoldier.comAnn Roberts first learned about AnySoldier.com late in 2004, and as a long time knitter, she asked her knitting friends to make scarves which she and her husband, Fred, could send off to soldiers for Christmas...

Guild members were proud to support Ann and Fred's campaign to bring warmth and comfort to U.S. service men and women serving overseas.
